Consulting Minister: Rev. Dr. David H. Messner Dhmessner@gmail.com
Rev. Dr. David H. Messner is Consulting Minister to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Stony Brook, New York for the 2025-2026 year. He is the Senior Minister of the First Unitarian Church of Chicago, serves as a Religious Advisor at the University of Chicago and is a member of the UChicago Alumni Board. He also serves ministerial colleagues as a Board Member of the UU Ministers Association with the ethics and collegiality portfolio.
Rev. Messner is an Accredited Interim Minister and previously served as Consulting Minister to the First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City, Interim Senior Minister of the Main Line Unitarian Church, and Interim Minister at the Unitarian Church in Charleston. He was the settled minister for seven years at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah, where he accompanied them in their growth into a mid-sized church with an outsized public voice for unity and justice. He trained at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, NY, and the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he specialized in trauma response, acute psychiatric support, and end-of-life care.
He earned his Ph.D. in Religion (Ethics & Society) from Emory University, a Master’s in Divinity from the University of Chicago with an emphasis on theology and ethics, an MBA from Yale University with concentrations in strategy and organizational behavior, and a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Reed College with a focus on decision making and risk.. His scholarly interests include how institutions, professions, and practices can foster better moral choices.
Born in Washington, D.C., he now lives on the South Side of Chicago with his wife of 30 years. They have two wonderful young adult offspring and a Blue Heeler pup that won’t quit. In his free time, he writes, grows (very) hot peppers, smokes meat, and photographs wild places.

Director of Religious Education: Patrick MacDevitt dre@uufsb.org
Patrick MacDevitt joined UUFSB as our DRE in September 2025. Patrick and his wife, Suzanne, live in Centerport, and have six children between them – Padraig 19, Sadie 20, Declan 24, Finn 26, Micki 45, and Meghan 46, and two grandchildren – Esperanza 1, and Callan 12.
Patrick and Suzanne have been members of a UU congregation for 25 years, Patrick has facilitated both COA (Coming of Age) and OWL (Our Whole Lives) as well as volunteered with the Sophia Fahs RE Camp for several years. He has also written and taught curriculum for the Religious Education program at the UU Fellowship of Huntington.
In addition to his UU life, Patrick has been a self-employed therapist for teens and their parents for the past 20+ years. He’s quite proud of having been a stay-at-home Dad while running his practice in the evenings, seamlessly blending caring for his family and clients.

Congregational Administrator: Susan Catanzaro office@uufsb.org
Susan Catanzaro’s primary responsibilities include providing support to the Minister, Board of Trustees and various Committees. She’s responsible for the day-to-day management of finances, and is the liaison between UUFSB and its tenants. Susan maintains the online calendar and assigned spaces, assists in the preparation of the Order of Service and manages the Memorial Garden among various other responsibilities in support of the Fellowship.
Prior to joining UUFSB in 1997, Susan worked in finance for a NYC company that broadcasted satellite signals of ABC, CBS, and NBC network-affiliate television to C-band home satellite dish owners. She also worked for Group W Cable, a subsidiary of Westinghouse. A graduate of Saint Leo College, located in Saint Leo, Florida, Susan received her BA in Business Education. Susan is originally from New Jersey and moved to East Setauket with her husband Gus and their son Anthony in 1995. Outside of the office, Susan enjoys gardening, road trips, reading mysteries and going to the beach.

Tom Pelletier is a freelance fundraising writer and a naturalist. He has been a member of UUFSB since 2009, is on the Music Committee, and has been on the Communications Committee, which has responsibility for uufsb.org, ever since. He lives with his wife, Barb Fox (also a member of UUFSB), and their dog, Albie.

Colleen Rudman is a happily retired technical writer and a dedicated yogini, reader, cyclist and movie lover. She has been a member of UUFSB since 1988. Besides many years of work for the Communications Committee (website, newsletters, etc.), she has co-chaired the UUFSB Goods & Services Auction since 2015 and served on the Board of Trustees and various committees over the decades. She lives with her husband of 40 years, Stan, and is blessed with two daughters, three stepchildren, and seven step-grandchildren.
