Sunday, December 16, 2018, Winter Solstice Service - Religious Education with Rev. Margie Allen
Join us for this year’s creative iteration of our intergenerational celebration of Yule, plus our beloved Mitten Tree and Twelve Days traditions. You’re not a UUFSB UU until you’ve hoisted “6 geese a-laying” or “10 lords a-leaping” a few times.
Friday, December 21, 2018, Special Vespers Service Celebrating the Winter Solstice (Yule) - 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Tea and sweets following
Come join other singers, listeners, players and readers as we gather in the sanctuary on the longest night of the year to honor the darkness of winter and encourage the sun on its long journey back towards us. Terry Keevil on oboe and duduk is our featured instrumentalist, Donna Demian on piano, and Maureen Shaiman, serving as our song leader.
Our Vespers services are contemplative worship experiences designed to be accessible to anyone of any faith, within or outside our congregation. The order of service includes chants and short songs from a variety of religious traditions sung in a variety of languages with multiple repeats; intervals of instrumental music; three short readings; a ten-minute meditation in relative darkness; a candle lighting and light gathering; and a shared benediction. Share a spacious hour in which to slow down and connect with yourself, with others, and with a light- and song-infused liturgy of seasonal warmth and peace on the Yule solstice. All ages welcome.
